Martinikerk
The church from the second half of the 14th century was originally dedicated to Martinus. The pseudo-basilica has thirty pillars between the central nave and the side aisles and twelve pillars around the choir. The pillars bear frescoes depicting the saints: Dominicus, Franciscus, Lucas, James the Greater, Sebastian, Adrian, Hubertus, Rochus, Clothilde, Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Margaret and Apollonia of Alexandria.
The Martinikerk is the only mediaeval church in Friesland with a choir ambulatory. The organ from 1842 was made by Van Dam. The restoration during the period 1940-1943 was carried out according to plans by Herman van der Kloot Meijburg.
The church is further used for concerts, such as the annual organ concert series and for performances by local and other choirs and musical societies. The church also provides space for lectures, classes and symposia. The Martinikerk is equipped with LCD screens, which provide good image and sound quality and recording.
It is tradition that during the summer months an exhibition is organised.
